{"id":148,"date":"2017-12-19T04:49:44","date_gmt":"2017-12-19T04:49:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/as.iluvx.com\/blog\/?p=148"},"modified":"2023-01-12T14:47:31","modified_gmt":"2023-01-12T06:47:31","slug":"148","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.aussiesoapsupplies.com.au\/index.php\/skin-care\/148\/","title":{"rendered":"Lip Balm Flavours, huh?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Hmmm, you have used lip flavour in your lip balm, but it doesn\u2019t taste like \u2026.. vanilla, or strawberry or pineapple?\u00a0 Why not?<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Lip flavours are really lip-safe fragrances.\u00a0 Yes, that\u2019s correct, they are not tasty!\u00a0 They smell delish, but there\u2019s something missing.\u00a0 Sweetness.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><!--more--><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">When you \u201ctaste\u201d commercial lip products (balms, juicy glosses etc) you\u2019re actually tasting aspartame or another sugar substitute (remember sugar is not oil soluble, it\u2019s water soluble).\u00a0 So as you taste the balm, you inhale the fragrance (scent) through your nose and the brain is tricked into thinking that the lip balm has a delicious watermelon taste (again insert any flavour!).<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">I can often \u201ctaste\u201d lavender essential oil when I am working with it in hot soap, which is another olfactory connection.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Anyway, you can replicate this by adding a sweetener to your balm.\u00a0 When you think oh, good, sugar or honey, well, no, not so simple unless you are making a water based product, which most lip products aren\u2019t.\u00a0 We carry <a href=\"https:\/\/aussiesoapsupplies.com.au\/sweet-lips-sweetener-lip--balm-flavour\/\">Lip Smacking Sweetener<\/a>, which is suitable for anhydrous products and totally edible, and Organic Stevia Drops.\u00a0 Remember the all-oil state of lip balm?\u00a0 This means the stevia (which is in an aqua-alcohol solution) will separate.\u00a0 I find that when I add it I allow the balm to sit a few minutes and in a Pyrex jug you can see the little \u201cwater\u201d globules settle to the bottom.
